Madison, Wisconsin

Travel & Stay

Where to sleep, how to get here, and what to do with the Friday. The room blocks release about a month before the wedding, so book early.

Rooms

Where to stay

Two blocks of rooms and one honest backup, all of them downtown. The block rate holds until the release date, and then the rooms go back to the hotel.

Hilton Madison Monona Terrace

0.7 mi from the venue · shuttle stop

from $209 a night

Block code
MCGUNIGAL-DAHL

Rooms held until

Our main block, and the one the shuttle serves. It sits against Monona Terrace with the lake behind it, a block off the Capitol Square, and it is the furthest of the three from the venue — which is why the shuttle exists.

Hotel Indigo Madison Downtown

0.3 mi from the venue · 7 min walk

from $179 a night

Block code
SADAHL27

Rooms held until

Our second block, and the one to take if you would rather walk home than wait for a shuttle — it is two blocks up from The Tinsmith, on the same stretch of East Washington as the music and the late food.

Moxy Madison Downtown

0.3 mi from the venue · 6 min walk

from $149 a night

Room block

None. Book the best rate you find.

No block here — listed because it is next door to the Indigo, reliably the cheapest bed this close in, and the bar downstairs is where the stragglers will end up anyway.

Arrivals

Getting here

Madison sits on an isthmus between two lakes. Nothing downtown is far, but the map will still lie to you.

Flying in

Dane County Regional (MSN) is the airport you want — six miles out, and a twelve-minute cab to downtown. It is small, which means fewer direct flights and a much shorter walk to the exit. Chicago O’Hare (ORD) is two and a half hours by car and often several hundred dollars cheaper; if you are coming from overseas, fly into O’Hare and drive.

Driving

Madison sits on an isthmus between two lakes, which is beautiful and makes the downtown street grid behave strangely. Trust the navigation over your instincts. The venue has no lot of its own; the Capitol Square ramps are the closest covered parking and are free after six on a Saturday.

The shuttle(provisional)

A shuttle will run between the Hilton and the venue — a loop before the ceremony and two runs back at the end of the night. Times go up here once we have them. The Indigo and the Moxy are close enough to walk, and if you miss the shuttle a cab across downtown is a five-minute ride.

Making a weekend of it

Come Friday if you can. The Dane County Farmers’ Market fills the entire Capitol Square on Saturday morning and is the largest producer-only market in the country. Olbrich Botanical Gardens is free and twenty minutes east. The Memorial Union Terrace serves beer at sunset on Lake Mendota in colored sunburst chairs, and there is no better hour anywhere in this city.
